Folklore offers Digital Storytelling Course

Folklore offers Digital Storytelling Course

Continuing the tradition of innovation, the Folklore Studies program will offer a new course in Digital Storytelling for fall 2017. The course will combine the techniques of effective oral storytelling with open source technology to create compelling digital stories. "Our digital storytelling course has its foundation in the storytelling tradition," said Professor Debra Lattanzi Shutika, who will be teaching the course. "We'll start with strategies for effective storytelling, then explore how these genres are best adapted and shared using digital media."

Students will create several types of digital products, including podcasts, and short films that incorporate narratives collected through conventional oral history techniques. At the end of the term, the course will feature a showcase of student work that can be posted on-line.
