Legendtrip & Lattes: The Exorcist Stairs & Georgetown

Sunday, November 13, 2022 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST

Join the Folklore Roundtable for a legendtrip & lattes on Sunday, November 6, 2022! Autumn is a perfect time to explore the spooky places and dive into the stories attached to them, and this semester we are headed to a set of stairs in Georgetown that you may know better as “The Exorcist Stairs.”

The iconic set of stairs were featured in the 1973 film The Exorcist based on the novel by William Peter Blatty. The novel was inspired by the 1949 exorcism of a young boy known as Roland Doe in nearby Cottage City, Maryland.

While the stairs may be the most well-known in the neighborhood, Georgetown is home to many more mysteries, spooky stories, and lore.

We’ll carpool from campus, masks are REQUIRED for carpooling, to Call Your Mother/Saxbys Coffee (vegetarian/vegan options at both places) grab some coffee and head to the stairs, and a few more spooky destinations, join us if you dare! This is a walking tour, so be sure to dress in comfortable shoes and check the weather!

This event is free and open to currently enrolled Mason students, current student ID required to attend, but spaces are limited, and you MUST register. If you already live closer to DC and would like to attend and do not need to carpool, please make arrangements by emailing Betty at baquino@gmu.edu
