Section Information for Spring 2020
The world is increasingly becoming diverse: ideas are moving, technologies are moving, cultures are moving and people are moving. For this reason, it is important that professionals understand how cultural variations can affect individual and organizational success. This course prepares students for practicing technical communication in international contexts by assigning them to work on real-world projects which will prepare them to design communication materials for international, intercultural and cross-cultural users. Then, we will explore the extent to which cultural and linguistic difference shapes the practice of technical communication globally, and how awareness of cultural assumptions can contribute to effective and ethical communicative practices in the global workplace. The goal of this course is to equip students with the foundational knowledge needed to succeed in the increasing global work environment of today.
