Tuesday, May 11, 2010 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM EDT
Johnson Center, Meeting Room F

Come see Paulina Guerrero's film "A Story of Plena" and witness the music scene of Puerto Rico. San Juan, Puerto Rico, holds a yearly four day-long street festival called Las Fiestas de la Calle de San Sebastian that features music and dance from the Caribbean and Latin American. However, the street parties, revived by a group of friends and neighbors in Old San Juan 48 years ago, are now completely run and sponsored by American and European beer and beverage companies. A small group of local musicians insist on staying away from the larger throngs to play a Puerto Rican music: plena.

Paulina Guerrero will graduate in May 2010 with her master of arts in interdisciplinary studies concentration in folklore.

The film is preceeded by dinner at 6:00 PM in the Rathskellar.
