Section Information for Spring 2015

The European Age of Exploration in the 1500s brought about the first global encounters between previously unknown peoples in the world and provoked a crisis in understanding “religion.” As a result various definitions, theories, and ways of studying religion began to emerge which continue to shape our understanding of religion and culture in our contemporary, globalized world. This course explores a variety of religious expressions and movements, and examines influential moments and thinkers in the field of religious studies. Students will be introduced to key ideas, theories, and terms concerning religion.
