English and folklore department faculty member Debra Lattanzi Shutika’s book, Beyond the Borderlands: Migration and Belonging in the United States and Mexico (University of California Press, 2011), has been awarded the Chicago Folklore Prize for 2012. The prize, presented by the American Folklore Society and the University of Chicago, recognizes the author of the best book-length work of scholarship for the year. First awarded in 1928, it is the oldest international award recognizing first-rate folklore scholarship.
Dr. Shutika is the co-director of Mason’s folklore program, and the director of undergraduate programs in the Department of English. Please join us in congratulating her on her well-deserved recognition.
