Shutika and Hallman Honored for Arlington Contributions

The Arlington County Board honored Debra Lattanzi Shutika, a folklorist and faculty member in the Department of English, and Annie Hallman, a graduate student in the Masters of Interdiscilpinary Studies program, concentrating in folklore. The two were honored on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, for their volunteer work for the “Tell Arlington’s Story” initiative.

Through their website, Tell Arlington’s Story attempts to collect and celebrate the city of Arlington’s rich history, culture and diversity through stories. Residents submit stories – through writing, video, audio and even in other languages – to the site, arlingtonstory.us. The site’s archive features 125 stories. Tell Arlington’s Story also holds periodic events throughout the city. A schedule can be found on their website.
